Five separate markets share one label here, and the cheapest tool listed is not bidding against the priciest. Our check covered every published tier of all 17, scoring each vendor on how much of its price list it shows and naming the meter behind each bill.
Cheapest paid entry here is $9.90 and the dearest is $125; the midpoint across the 17 is $16.99. That distance exists because one label covers five markets: answer engines, AI inside a workspace, meeting notetakers, deck generators and agent automation. Each runs its own meter, so a price only reads against its own group.
Ranked by a transparency score: pricing transparency 60%, user satisfaction 40%. Capability is not scored. It is the condition grid below. Prices are read from vendor pricing pages and re-checked per product on the dates shown. ComparEdge sells no AI productivity tools and takes no payment for placement. How the score is built.
Each tool carries one number onto the axis, the cheapest monthly price it publishes. What that number counts is not the same on every row: minutes on one, agent tasks on the next.
Reading the console
One row per tool, and the mark sits at the cheapest monthly price that vendor publishes. The axis is log-scaled, so each decade to the right multiplies the price by ten rather than doubling it. Read the axis inside a group, not across it. These tools come from five different markets, so a notetaker sitting left of a deck generator tells you about billing, not about value. The number on the right is our reading of how much of a price list a vendor is willing to show, and the grid beside it is capability, which reads on its own.
Scroll the console sideways to reach the remaining conditions.
The shortlist ranks by what the plan actually costs your team, not by list price. Flat plans are folded into a per-team number so they compare like for like. Only vendors rated 85 and up are eligible.

Not a transcription budget, a storage budget: Pro sells unlimited transcription and then caps what you keep at eight thousand minutes a user. Sales and recruiting teams living in back-to-back calls get the most out of it. Enterprise publishes an annual figure only.
Critical gapHIPAA compliance sits behind the Enterprise tier, and lower plans carry more limited data privacy controls.
Fireflies.ai: expert take
Unlimited transcription on the $18 Pro plan comes with a storage ceiling of eight thousand minutes a user, so the limit moved from what you record to what you keep. Enterprise publishes an annual rate of $39 and no month-to-month figure at all.

Past a deck or two a month, when the per-prompt ceiling starts to bite: cards per prompt run from ten on Free to seventy-five at the top, with credits as the second meter. Team tiers are annual only and carry seat minimums, two on Team and ten on Business.
Critical gapThe platform exhibits poor subscription cancellation flows and inconsistent user-interface navigation.

No longer a chat subscription, a pair of API meters: search billed per thousand calls, page extraction billed per thousand pages. It suits a build with a budget line rather than a browser tab, and there is no consumer tier left to fall back to.
Critical gapThe iOS application displays intermittent instability and inconsistent web search result accuracy.
You.com: expert take
There is no subscription left to buy. You.com now meters two endpoints, the Search API at $5 per thousand calls and the Contents API at $1 per thousand pages. The product moved out of its own market into infrastructure billing.

Once literature reviews become a weekly job rather than an occasional one, because deep reviews are the only quota that moves: fifteen of them monthly on Pro, fifty on Teams, two hundred on the Deep Plan. Everything else on every tier is sold as unlimited.
Critical gapThe interface suffers from high interaction latency during complex, multi-step search workflows.

Teams already pushing real automation volume rather than testing it, since the task slider only moves Pro and Team: Basic stays fixed at a thousand agent tasks whatever you drag. The step from Pro to Team is mostly headcount, one user against twenty-five, and AI workers are billed per worker on top.
Critical gapWith no free tier and a $125 floor, the platform is heavy for small teams running light workflows.

Not the add-on, the tier: full AI access and agents sit on Business, while Plus buys basic writing help and stops there. It earns the money once the workspace already holds the documents you want answered from, and custom agents run against a separate pool of credits sold beside the seat.
Critical gapThe platform experiences significant latency when rendering large tables and complex databases.

Past the point where screening papers by hand stops being realistic. Automated reports and extraction columns are the meter, and the screening ceiling runs from five thousand papers on Pro to forty thousand at Enterprise. Academic buyers see a different price list from industry ones.
Critical gapElicit lacks the verification accuracy required for formal meta-research.

Well-defined inbox and scheduling work, not open-ended agent building: the tiers sell standard usage, three times that and seven times that, without naming the unit anywhere. Mailboxes are the only countable thing across the tiers, two on Plus rising to five on Max.
Critical gapThe usage ladder never names its unit, so Pro's 3x and Max's 7x multiply a "standard usage" number no plan states.

Teams that need slides to stay on brand without a designer policing them, since Pro is sold to individual users and collaboration begins on Team. The one-off presentation purchase costs exactly a month of Pro, so the published grid marks the point where buying once stops paying.
Critical gapThe automated layout engine prevents custom manual adjustments to slide elements and structural spacing.

Mem, not the Notion add-on the slug suggests: a standalone note app that stops its free plan at twenty-five notes, twenty-five chat messages and twenty-five PDF pages a month. One paid tier sits above that, and the team tier is quoted rather than listed.

Anyone running one long autonomous job rather than many short ones, because credits arrive in two pools: a monthly allowance and three hundred that refresh daily. A single large task drains the daily pool early, which makes the monthly allowance the one that decides what you can attempt.

An enterprise machine-learning platform, not a personal tool, and priced like one: neither tier shows a figure, and the marketplace listing routes to private offers. It belongs in a procurement cycle, not in a subscription decision.
Critical gapThe platform produces model overfitting during automated blueprint generation cycles.

The subscription is rarely the whole invoice on this page. Notion sells a seat and then meters AI credits against it. Zams charges for the platform and then charges again per AI worker. Consensus prices its search API per request, apart from any tier, and Perplexity's API bills apart from the subscription that quietly includes a little of it.
None of that shows on the tier you were comparing. The habit worth keeping is to ask what a plan excludes before asking what it costs, because on the metered half of this market the second number is the one that moves.
A price on this shelf sometimes depends on who is asking rather than on what is being sold. The gate is a document, not a promo code: an academic email address, a student verification service, a clinician's registry number. Beautiful.ai hands students a full free year on that basis, and Otter discounts a seat for anyone on an .edu address.
Two things follow. A figure you cannot qualify for is not your price, so several of the discounts here are noise to a commercial buyer. And a tool that reads as expensive at list can be one of the cheaper options for a university, which makes the published number a starting point for the comparison rather than the end of it.
Name the job before you look at a price. What sits behind this label is five separate trades, and no arithmetic carries a figure from one of them to the next. A research quota, an hour of audio and an agent run are not the same purchase.
Then notice who is doing the asking. The same software carries one rate for a university and another for a company, and proof of who you are can halve a bill outright. Two rows on this page are no longer sold to anyone, which is the other lesson of the shelf: it buries products quickly. The score has nothing to say about which of the five jobs is yours. It measures whether a vendor states what the job it does will cost.
