NordVPN Pricing in August 2026: Basic, Complete and Complete Max, Monthly and on Renewal
NordVPN costs $14.99 a month on Basic, $19.99 on Complete and $21.99 on Complete Max as of . Prepaid terms run cheaper while they last, then each tier renews as one yearly charge: $139.08, $219.48 or $301.08. The top tier renews above twelve monthly payments.
Two figures decide this purchase and only one is advertised. The intro rate covers a fixed term, 12 months or 27, and after it the account switches to a yearly charge fixed per tier. On Complete Max that charge is larger than a year of month-to-month billing. Commitment is not always the cheaper side here.
What follows prices the standing monthly rates, then each prepaid term and what it takes up front, then the yearly figure the term hands over to. VAT is excluded from every number the vendor prints and from every number here. Captured from the live term selector in .
This page prices consumer NordVPN. NordLayer, the business product from the same company, is sold separately with a five-licence minimum and none of its rates appear here.

Vendor pricing pageNordVPN renewal price: Basic hands over to $139.08 once its term ends
The savings percentages on the vendor's own page are measured against the renewal column here, not against the monthly rate, and the arithmetic holds to the cent. Few vendors here measure a discount against the price you end up paying. The 12-month term finishes at the same yearly charge as the 27-month one.
| Tier | First term | From renewal | Paid up front |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $3.49 | $139.08 | $94.23 |
| Complete | $4.49 | $219.48 | $121.23 |
| Complete Max | $6.49 | $301.08 | $175.23 |
The lower rate holds for 27 months, paid in front.
The paid-up-front figure leaves the account in one go on day one, and VAT sits outside every column here.
NordVPN tier steps: Complete adds $60 a year, Complete Max another $24
Two moves up the tiers, and neither buys a better connection. Ten devices and the same tunnel run on all three tiers.
Priced at twelve months of the published rate. The renewals do not follow the same shape, and on the top tier they run past a year of monthly billing.
Your NordVPN bill: read against $14.99, the rate with no discount on it
What your line costs on the published rates
You entered Complete on monthly billing. The published rate for that state is $19.99 a month, with no discount applied to it.
The figure has held on every dated read for that tier, and the one-year term prices moved under it.
Where the bill sits above the advertised rate
The step above buys software rather than connectivity. Ten devices is the ceiling on every tier, and the tunnel is the same one.
What is in your bill that the advertised rate does not price
The compare table lists ten simultaneous devices as included on Basic, Complete and Complete Max. No tier lifts it and no add-on extends it, so the cap is a category fact rather than a plan fact here.
The antivirus, the password manager and the terabyte of storage arrive with Complete and cannot be bought beside Basic. Paying for one of them means paying for all of them.
Where your rate sits against the category
Your line reads $19.99 a month against a $12.49 middle across the four other VPNs we track. The intro rates for this product sit under every one of them, and they expire.
It also sits above every entry rate we record in this category.
One product, two positions on this scale. Which one is fair depends entirely on whether you are inside a prepaid term or past it.
The configuration we would sign off
Basic at the published monthly rate. Nothing cheaper carries what you ticked.
You named a tier above that one. The extra is software, so it pays only if those tools replace something you already buy.
Basic at $19.99 a month, VAT on top, or the same tier prepaid. Either route ends on the yearly renewal.

| Your case | Plan | Why this one |
|---|---|---|
| One person who wants the tunnel and little elsehotel wifi, a work laptop, a phone on roaming | Basic $14.99/mo, renewing at $139.08 a year | 10 devices at once, scam and phishing protection, and Dark Web Monitor watching up to five email addresses. That device count is identical on every tier, so paying more never buys another connection. A year of monthly billing is $179.88 against the $139.08 renewal. |
| A household replacing three subscriptions at onceantivirus, a password vault, cloud backup, breach alerts | Complete $19.99/mo, renewing at $219.48 a year | 1 TB of encrypted storage, a password manager, next-generation antivirus and the ad and tracker blocker. Dark Web Monitor Pro widens the watch to eight emails plus a phone number, a card and a national ID. The step over Basic is $60 across a year of monthly billing. |
| Anyone who needs a fixed address or identity coveran allowlisted login at work, identity theft protection | Complete Max $21.99/mo, renewing at $301.08 a year | Dedicated IP and NordProtect, which carries identity theft cover and cyber insurance. Read the renewal before signing: $301.08 a year against $263.88 for twelve monthly payments. This is the one tier where committing costs more than not committing. |
| A buyer choosing between the two prepaid termsweighing 12 months against 27 on the same tier | Basic $14.99/mo, or $3.49 a month across 27 months | The 2-year card bills $94.23 for the first 27 months, which is $3.49 times 27 to the cent. Three extra months are added to the term and charged with it. The 1-year card is a plain twelve months at $65.88, and both hand over to $139.08 a year. |
| A company trying to buy licences herea small team, shared laptops, one invoice | Complete $19.99/mo, renewing at $219.48 a year | No team tier exists on this card. The business route leaves for NordLayer, a separate product with a five-licence minimum, and nothing about its pricing is published beside these plans. Buying here means consumer subscriptions bought one at a time. |
NordVPN for ten devices: $180 a year at the published monthly rate
Twelve payments at the published rate, which is what a year of month-to-month billing costs. Compare it with the renewal: $139.08 on Basic, $219.48 on Complete and $301.08 on Complete Max.
NordVPN hidden costs: seven conditions the storefront price leaves out
Price check history
Each read of the published rates is on the record with its date. Across 5 of them the three plans held.
We watched from spring 2026 onward and claim nothing about the years before that. five reads, no movement.
Where this rate sits in the category
four vpn tools priced by one method. Entry rates run $2.19 to $15.45 a month, and the middle sits at $12.49.
Every calibration point was read the same way and on the same pass, August 2026.
Seven charges that sit outside the advertised rate
Sorted by how much each one adds once the site is live.Complete Max renews above its own month-to-month rate
The top tier renews at $301.08 a year. Twelve payments of $21.99 come to $263.88. Committing therefore costs $37.20 more across a year than never committing. Only this tier behaves that way: Basic renews at $139.08 against $179.88, Complete at $219.48 against $239.88.
The three extra months are charged, not given
The 2-year card carries a '+ 3 EXTRA months' badge and bills $94.23 for the first 27 months of Basic. That is $3.49 multiplied by 27, to the cent. The months are added to the commitment rather than handed over, so what looks like a gift is a longer term.
Both prepaid terms hand over to the same yearly charge
A 12-month term at $5.49 and a 27-month term at $3.49 end in the same place: $139.08 a year on Basic. Complete lands at $219.48 and Complete Max at $301.08. The longer term is cheaper only while it runs, and it changes nothing about the invoice that follows.
The prepaid term is taken in a single payment
The page reads '$312.93 $94.23 for the first 27 months'. One charge covers all of them. Leave in month four and the remaining twenty-three are bought and gone, which is a longer exposure than most buyers picture when they choose the cheaper monthly figure.
VAT sits outside every figure the page prints
Three words follow every price on every term: VAT may apply. So the $94.23 term total and the $139.08 renewal are both pre-tax, and what gets added depends on the billing address rather than on the plan.
No business price exists on this page
The business link leads to NordLayer, a different product from the same company, where a minimum of five licences applies. NordVPN itself publishes no team tier. A company buying here buys consumer subscriptions and gets consumer terms with them.
Where NordProtect actually applies is not stated
Identity theft cover and cyber insurance are most of the case for the top tier and most of the reason its renewal reaches $301.08. The pricing page does not restate which countries the cover reaches. A buyer outside them pays the same figure for a thinner tier.
What the NordVPN price page leaves out
Three things we looked for on the vendor's own page and did not find. Each one is something a buyer cannot verify before the card is charged.
- 01A monthly figure for any renewal. The intro is quoted per month and the renewal per year, and NordVPN never converts one into the other.
- 02The countries NordProtect covers. Identity theft cover and cyber insurance carry the top tier and the page does not say where they apply.
- 03Any team or business rate. The link exists, the minimum of five licences is stated, and the price is somewhere else entirely.

NordVPN beside ExpressVPN, Surfshark and ProtonVPN: ten devices, $14.99
Every vendor here discounts a commitment, so a storefront figure compares offers rather than products. These four are read at the rate each one charges with no term attached.

Arriving at NordVPN from ExpressVPN, Surfshark or ProtonVPN: $14.99
Three routes in, each priced on the no-commitment rate at both ends. The apps take an evening. What costs money is the term you are still holding somewhere else.
ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN charges $14.99 a month against $15 on NordVPN Basic.Identical entry rates, so nothing changes on the sticker. Look at the renewals instead: $139.08 a year here against $99.95 on the tier you are leaving.
- Work out what is left of the term you already paid: a 28-month prepayment is not refundable by switching.
- Sign in on the new apps first and leave the old ones installed until every device is proven.
- Use the thirty-day guarantee as the test window, and set a reminder before the renewal date rather than after it.
Surfshark
Surfshark runs $15.45 a month against $15 on NordVPN.You are moving from an uncounted device list to a ceiling of ten. Count what is actually connected before the switch, not what is owned.
- List the devices that stay connected all day. Ten is the limit on every tier here.
- Decide whether the antivirus and the vault are worth the second tier, or duplicates of what you already run.
- Keep both subscriptions alive for a week if anything depends on a specific exit country.
ProtonVPN
ProtonVPN costs $9.99 a month against $20 here. The step up is a bundle, not a better tunnel. If the antivirus and the storage duplicate software you already pay for, the move adds cost without adding cover.
- Price what you would cancel elsewhere before committing: the second tier only pays for itself by replacing something.
- Start on the monthly rate. A prepaid term leaves the account in one payment on day one.
- Check the renewal figure for the tier you choose before the term ends, not when the email arrives.
Is NordVPN worth it: yes on Basic at $139.08, no on Complete Max
Updated
4.7 of 5
NordVPN enters at $14.99 a month. That is above the $12.49 median this category sets, and level with ExpressVPN to the cent. One thing here beats the category norm. NordVPN states the basis of its own discount claims, savings measured against renewal prices, and the struck totals check out exactly. A vendor comparing its offer with the price you will actually pay is doing something most of its rivals avoid.
Then there is Complete Max. It renews at $301.08 a year while twelve separate payments of $21.99 total $263.88, so the customer who commits pays $37.20 more than the one who never did. Basic and Complete renew below a year of monthly billing, which is what a commitment is supposed to do. Our reading stops at Complete for that reason, and the case for the tier above it is a dedicated IP and NordProtect bought with both eyes open.
- You are buying Complete Max to keepit renews at $301.08 a year against $263.88 for twelve monthly payments of the same tier.
- You need more than ten devices coveredthe ceiling is ten on Basic, Complete and Complete Max alike, and no tier lifts it.
- You are buying for a companythis card has no team tier, and the business product is sold separately from five licences up.
