Hetzner Performance: Benchmarks, Latency & Limits 2026
Hetzner is an EU-centric VPS built for price-performance: four NVMe families, 20 TB traffic included, 0.001 EUR/GB overage. It provisions in 25 seconds.
Hetzner Performance verdict
Hetzner is a German, EU-centric VPS known for price-performance.
Four families run the range. CX on Intel/AMD and CAX on Ampere Arm start at 4.49 EUR in the EU.
For cheap EU compute, CX or the Arm-based CAX are hard to beat, and the 20 TB of included traffic with 0.001 EUR/GB overage make Hetzner ideal for bandwidth-heavy EU work. Use CCX dedicated vCPU for steady load. There is no autoscale, so plan horizontal scale with Load Balancers. Delete servers you are not using, because a powered-off server still bills. Outside the EU, expect US and Singapore to cost more and include far less traffic.
- Servers do not autoscale. You Rescale, where disk can only grow, or scale out with Load Balancers and Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible integrations.
- Arm CAX and Intel/AMD CX shared plans are EU-only. US and Singapore offer CPX and CCX at about 20% higher prices, with as little as 1 TB of traffic.
- Servers bill whether on or off, so you must delete one to stop charges. Per-instance bandwidth is not guaranteed, so expect 300 to 500 Mbit/s on a shared 10 Gbit host.

Size your Hetzner service and autoscaling
- on CX23 (Intel/AMD) you scale manually, so set 3 instances to hold 70% CPU.
- That is about EUR 13.47/mo at 3 × EUR 4.49 (Hetzner prorates compute by the second).

Hetzner reliability and architecture
- Hetzner guarantees 99.9% monthly availability for Cloud Servers, compensating non-compliance with Cloud Credits at the hourly rate
- The SLA excludes downtime from DDoS attacks, force majeure, maintenance windows and customer-initiated changes such as rescales
- DDoS protection is included free for all customers with dynamic detection and mitigation, identical in every location including the US
- Every server uses NVMe SSD storage and ECC RAM, on a KVM hypervisor with virtio NICs and disks
- Hetzner holds the German BSI C5 (Cloud Computing Compliance Criteria Catalogue) certification, a key signal for business-critical workloads
- Servers are billed whether powered on or off, so you must delete a server to stop billing; charges accrue hourly up to the monthly price cap
Hetzner performance benchmarks, independently measured
- VPSBenchmarks, an independent VPS lab, measured Hetzner provisioning at about 25 seconds, the fastest of the major VPS hosts it tracks
- Independent awards rank Hetzner 2nd Best VPS under $15 (2024) and under $8 (2023), with 3rd-place finishes from 2022 to 2025
- The lab cites the choice of local or network storage and the choice of dedicated CPU resources as Hetzner's strengths
- It independently confirms a 20 TB monthly EU traffic allowance and a flat 0.001 EUR/GB overage, among the cheapest in the market
- Hetzner was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Germany, with data centers in Finland, Germany, Singapore and the United States
Hetzner Performance FAQ
What server families does Hetzner offer?
Four. CX is Intel/AMD shared, EU only, from 4.49 EUR a month. CAX is Ampere Arm64 shared, EU only, from 4.99 EUR. CPX is AMD shared in all locations from 8.49 EUR. CCX is dedicated AMD EPYC vCPU in all locations, from 16.49 EUR up to 48 vCPU and 192 GB. Every server uses NVMe SSD storage and ECC RAM. A primary IPv4 costs 0.50 EUR a month extra, and IPv6 is free.
What is Hetzner's traffic pricing?
Among the cheapest anywhere. EU plans include 20 TB of outbound traffic a month, and only outbound is billed, with inbound and internal free. Overage is a flat 0.001 EUR/GB, so 1 EUR per TB, billed in 100 MB blocks. US and Singapore plans cost about 20% more and include as little as 1 TB, so the deal is best in the EU.
Does Hetzner autoscale?
No, there is no native per-instance autoscaling. You Rescale a server up or down at any time, though the disk can only grow, or scale out with managed Load Balancers, private Networks and integrations for Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible. Servers bill whether powered on or off, so delete ones you no longer need.
How fast is Hetzner? What do independent benchmarks show?
VPSBenchmarks measured Hetzner provisioning in 25 seconds, the fastest of the major VPS hosts it tracks. It named Hetzner 2nd Best VPS under $15 in 2024 and under $8 in 2023, with 3rd-place finishes from 2022 to 2025. It praises the choice of local or network storage and dedicated-CPU resources. Servers run on NVMe and ECC RAM under KVM, on a shared 10 Gbit host, so expect 300 to 500 Mbit/s each.
What reliability and certifications does Hetzner have?
A 99.9% monthly uptime SLA with Cloud-Credit compensation, excluding DDoS, force majeure, maintenance, customer-initiated changes. DDoS protection is included free in every location, the US included. The EU data center parks in Germany and Finland are ISO/IEC 27001 certified, and Hetzner holds the German BSI C5, a strong signal for business-critical and regulated workloads.
